Jack Taylor 5170 Tourist 20.5"
$1186.00 Ask Derby about this item.
This frame was imported by Derby in the early 1970's, and set up for L.H., who did some extended tours both here and abroad. The top tube is 21 3/4" long, measured C-C.
It received regular maintenance through its period of use in that decade, before sitting idle for 25 or 30 years. The wheels have been rebuilt with a new set of DT spokes and 27" Sun rims. The original Suntour derailleur was replaced with a later model. The Stronglight headset, Mafac brakes, TTT stem, Weinman brake levers, TA crank arms, Pro-Ace pedals, Huret front changer, and Blumels mudguards are original. The TA chainrings have been replaced at least once, as have the chain and the five speed Regina freewheel. The Suntour barcon levers were recently overhauled. The rear hub is a Campagnolo 36* Large Flange; the front hub is a Sanshin large flange. The front bag support rack was made at the Taylor Brothers' works; the rear pannier carrier has Gone Missing.
Please note the special TA chainring bolts on either side of the crankarm; they keep the chain from getting wedged between the arm and outer ring. There are no dents or dings on the frame or fork. The TTT stem and the seat post are easily removed as Owner/Mechanic put grease on them when they were first inserted into the frame, and each time they came in and out since then. If Buyer wishes a rear rack or a generator lighting system, Owner/parts installer has a box of them, and will adjust the price accordingly.
