JT 4447 Tour of Britian Black
Derby traded some stuff to Dave R. for this frame, in the early 70's. It was a few years old then, an unused frame made in 1962. The Brothers did not like sending bikes to be chromed as too many were damaged there, so the chrome fork tips and stays became athing of the past. The white pin striping and yellow edged Nervex Lugs, Vintage components, and new condition make this rare frame an exemplary example of their work. The chrome stem is stamped 'J Taylor', is drilled to pass a brake wire, and is affixed to GB bars. The bike has only been used on 'Ceremonial' rides, including a short criterium in GG Park, for a total of less than 60 miles. The components are the same age or older than the bike, except for the Mafac Promotion levers. The brakes are the earlier type, stamped M.A.F.A.C. The crankset is a TA semi-cottered type, with TA professional rings. Note the unusual cross section of the BB spindle. The 32/40 wheels were built by Derby in 1972 or '73 using Robergel spokes and Martano rims. The Airlite Hubs were considered by many(Englishmen) to be superior to those available on the Continent. A duplicate bottom half of the Paturad adjustable toe clip was fabricated by techs at the Lawerence Radiation Lab, to replace a missing one(see photo). Size is 22 1/2".
