Vintage Ghisallo wood rim
This beautiful Italian made three laminate wooden rim is a good example of a 'cottage' industry product. These rims were available only at certain times of the year. The reason: The sheep herder who made them of necessity lived a nomadic life except when wintering the sheep at his cottage.
Derby used a pair of these rims for rainy cyclocross races, as the wooden braking surface works better than aluminum in wet conditions. Using a front wheel for a second season without a close inspection can have undesirable consequences, such as using up a perfectly good helmet.
If you think you're up for a difficult build, or just want the rim for hanging around, or making a lamp or something, make an offer. Although this rim is not tubular (it is solid) it is made for 'tubular tires' like a nice fat sew-up. If your offer is accepted you must also agree not to use the rim for a front wheel.
It has 36 holes. Yes, we can build you a wheel with the Ghisallo rim and your hub.
