XXXJack Taylor 6304 Tour of Britain
Not for sale Ask Derby about this item.
The 20" Tour of Britain frame was made by the Brothers in 1972 using Prugnaut lugs instead of the Nervex lugset more often seen on this model. In classic terms, the Tour of Britain model is a road racing bike, and is suitable for long, multi-day races on bad roads. A more modern view of the cycle, and its 42" wheelbase, would see it as a touring bike or one for double century events. The superior welding skills of Norman Taylor have produced a frame that is very easy to pedal, has a good sprint, and transmits very little road shock, even on the bad roads of England's Midlands. The top tube is 22" long and the bottom bracket is 10 5/8" high.

The 1972 Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur was modified with cage plates from a campy Rally. Other Campagnolo components include the Record front changer, handlebar-end shift levers, Superlight pedals and Record brakes. The steel toe clips have Binda toe straps attached. The brake levers, wires, and housing are original and, due to the care taken in the assembly, the Mafac Professional levers still give an audible snap when released. The bars and stem are by TTT. The 170mm TA cranks come with 52-42-32 tooth Cyclotouriste rings, and are coupled to five new Regina Oro cogs of 15-17-20-24-28 teeth with a new Sedis chain. The headset is a Stronglight P-3. The broken in Brooks Professional saddle is affixed to the plain alloy seat pillar (always provided by the Brothers) by a new Brooks saddle clamp. The downtube cable stops were made by Derby from shift lever parts, as no commercial ones were available at that time(1972) for bikes with brazed-on lever bossses.
The 36 hole Phil Wood hubs are laced to 27" Mavic MA-40 rims with Wheelsmith spokes.
Sellor imported, assembled, and sold this TOB the year it was made; since then it has had three owners and the finish has suffered. However, the luster and depth of the seven coats of paint and lacquer in this Flamboyant finish is still striking . Documentation of the work performed to put this bike close to the mechanical condition it was in when new, in the form of a completed repair tag, will be available to the purchaser. The frame was wiped down, however, except for the innards of the shift levers and the calipers' eccentric brake wire adjuster, no other cleaning or greasing has been done. If you feel more cleaning is necessary for your display or riding standards, we recommend using only a clean damp cloth and a toothbrush.
